usic is not just the soundtrack of Berlin’s legendary
night life. Music plays a vital role in a city most people associate with institutions as diverse as the Love Parade and the Berliner Philharmonic. Music is essential to the emotional power of film. We wanted to explore the movement of the musician in rehearsal and in concert and the relation between music and film montage.¶
The band Tanga Elektra started out as musical accompaniment for Tango Milongas. The brothers began adding elements of other music beyond traditional Tango to create a powerful blend of New Soul, Elektro and Tango Nuevo.¶
David’s soulful tenor voice is backed by his own violin played with a bow or electronically modified to add bass lines and other sounds. The driving rhythm of Tanga Electra is supplied by Elias. He performs his polyrhythmic beats on standard drums or more eccentric percussion instruments including a guitar case and toy bongos•
